Library Card

Atwell Public Library Cards

An Atwell Public Library card is available at no cost to anyone who lives or attends school in an educational institution within the City of Hutchins city limits. Educational institutions include public schools, charter schools, private schools, etc. A library card is also available to City of Hutchins employees.

To receive your library card, visit Atwell Public Library with a government-issued photo identification, which has your current address. If your ID does not show your current address, please bring two forms of identification: one to prove your identity with a photo and one to show your place of residence. Examples include:

  • driver's license
  • voter’s registration card (current)
  • lease agreement (current)
  • vehicle insurance (current)
  • passport
  • checkbook
  • online bill

current business mail with physical address (within last 30 days). Mail must be typewritten or computer-generated

 

Atwell Public Library cards are valid for residents, Hutchins’ students, and City of Hutchins employees. If residency changes, employment ends, or student changes to a school outside of Hutchins, the library card privileges expire.

Card for Children

Parents can sign up their children, age 5 years and older to receive a library card. The parent/guardian must present two forms of identification (outlined above) or the child's report card and/or ID (valid for schools within the City of Hutchins only, if not a resident).

Card for teens

Teenagers 14 and up may apply for their own library card with a current school ID (valid for schools within the City of Hutchins only) or government ID.

TexShare Cards

TexShare Card provides you with borrowing privileges from more than 500 participating libraries across the state. A TexShare card is available at no cost to Atwell Public Library cardholders, upon request, for patrons 18 years and older who have no outstanding fines or fees. Library Services

Wifi Access – Free Wifi access is available for use, without a password between regular library open hours- 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

 

Computer Terminals – Computers are open to the public, with or without a library card for up to 2 hours daily.

 

Prints and Copies – Black & White copies only           

  • Prints and Copies - $.10 per page 

 

 Scan to PDF – Staff can scan paperwork into PDF, and email to a personal email only.

  • Scan to PDF- $.10 per page

 

Email to Print – Patrons can email staff documents to print. Prints must be picked up within 24 hours of submission. All documents must be ready to print with  no editing required.

  • Email to print- $.10 per page

 

Fax – Only outgoing faxes. Library does not accept incoming faxes.

Online Resources

Atwell Public Library offers a variety of online resources through our TexShare membership. These are available free for cardholders and can be accessed from your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other internet accessible device. 

 

All databases require a login password and can be requested in-person, email, or over the phone.

Tests include academic, civil service, military, professional licensing, certification and STAAR tests. There is also job hunting help on creating a resume and preparing for interviews. Gale Legal Forms includes a wide selection of Texas legal forms. Also includes a directory of Texas attorneys and a dictionary of legal definitions explained in layman’s language. You will need your library card number and your PIN to log in.

 

 quest

HeritageQuest Online combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitized version of the popular ProQuest Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content. Powered by Ancestry with more than 4.4 billion records and coverage dating back to the 1700s.

 

 texshare

TexShare Library of Texas is an extensive collection of databases which gives users the opportunity to access full-text articles in encyclopedias, almanacs, reference books, journals, newspapers, and electronic books. Databases include Ebsco MasterFile and Academic Search, Heritage Quest Online, Texas Digital Sanborn Maps, Ebsco Consumer Health Complete, Gale Literature Resources Center, InfoTrac Custom Newspapers, and Net Library. You will need a login and password.

Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Atwell Public Library. Pick up your application in the library.

Minimum requirements to volunteer:

  • Must fill out an application.
  • Consent to a background check.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian’s permission.
  • Applicants must not be seeking court-ordered community service hours.
  • Student volunteers are considered those working for National Honor Society or other school related hours.

Samples of volunteering opportunities include:

  • Greeting and welcoming patrons
  • Shelving books and straightening shelves.
  • Assisting Circulation Desk
  • Computer coach
  • Adult program assistant
  • Teen program assistant
  • Children’s programs (game days, seasonal crafts, Storytime.)
  • Clerical

Volunteer applications and background checks are reviewed and assessed by the City of Hutchins Human Resource Department. If the volunteer application is accepted, the librarian will contact the volunteer by email and/or phone. Volunteers are under the direct supervision of the librarian and will receive assignments based on needs of the library as well as matching interests and skills.

The following holidays are observed by the City of Hutchins, and all public buildings will be closed that day. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed, and if the holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed.

Donation Policy

Atwell Public Library accepts donations of new and or gently used materials including books, recorded books, music CDs, and DVD/Blu-rays. Any other form of donated item such as craft supplies, puzzles, or games, will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Donations can be of any reading level or in any world language. Donated materials become the property of the Atwell Public Library and will be evaluated based upon our collection development policy and may be added to the permanent collection, added to the Hutchins’s Community Libraries, sold, discarded, or donated to another non-profit institution or library.

All proceeds from the sale of donated materials benefit the Atwell Public Library. Donations added to the collection may be subsequently withdrawn when they are worn or when their content is no longer current. If you need a receipt for tax purposes, the library will provide the form, but the donor must assign a dollar value to the donations.
