Police Officer

The Police Department

The Hutchins Police Department was established in 1969 and was operated in the current City Hall building located at 321 N. Main Street, In 1993 the Police Department moved to the existing Hutchins Postal Office building located at 205 W. Hickman St. In 2019, The City of Hutchins passed a 5.5 million dollar bond to construct a new State of the art public safety building. In 2021 the Police department moved to the new facility located at 550 W. Palestine Rd. This facility offers state of the art computer aided dispatching capabilities, along with an exercise room, and emergency storm shelter. Over the past five decades the Police department has grown from a one man night watchman, to 22 sworn personnel and 8 civilian personnel in communications, code enforcement, and animal control. The Police department has an annual operating budget of 2.2 Million dollars, that allows excellent salary and benefits for our Officers, along with training opportunities, and career growth.

Job Summary

Performs routine patrol and law enforcement duties, including responding to calls, enforcing traffic laws, communicating with citizens, arresting suspects, and preparing reports. Maintains appearance and operation of patrol vehicle and equipment. Responds to and investigates traffic accidents and provides traffic control. Provides information to the public and community on crime prevention.

Compensation & Benefits

This position pays between $26.71 - $34.09/hour DOE

Education & Experience

  • Must meet all TCOLE requirements and pass a thorough back ground check.
  • Licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement at the time of examination.
  • Consideration will also be given to those candidates currently enrolled in the Police Academy.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen. Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Eyesight correctable with glasses to 20/20 vision.
  • No more than four (4) moving violations in the last 3 years, including accidents.
  • No convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication above a class B Misdemeanor.
  • No Family violence (preventing the carrying of a firearm.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Successfully pass a written Entry Exam.
  • Successfully pass a job related physical assessment.
  • Successfully pass an oral review board. Take a polygraph examination.
  • Successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Successfully pass a psychological examination.
  • Successfully pass a drug test.

Firefighter/Paramedic

Itis surrounded by a larger service area that is 100 square miles. Travel along the I20/I45 corridor and international intermodal are enhancing the community profile. As aresult, the City is experiencing a season of growth and development like never before.This is an exciting time to join the executive team.

The Hutchins Fire Department was established as an all volunteer Fire Company in 1947. By the mid 1980's the City hired its first paid full time firefighter.Currently, Hutchins Fire Rescue has a full staff of Firefighter/Paramedics on a 24/48 rotation. The department has an ISO PPC rating of 4. The Department is aided by CAD(Computer Aided Dispatch) enabling the staff to review residential caller as well as businesses information to prepare for providing assistance while in route to calls.

The Fire Department has a total of 24 full time employees. The city recently opened a Public Safety Building which will be the new home for Station 1.

Job Summary

Responds to emergencies and provides fire suppression services. Performs search and rescue in active emergency situations. Responds to medical calls and administers emergency medical care. Transports patients as needed. Performs rescue and extrication operations. Performs general firefighting and rescue duties as assigned. Inspects commercial businesses and premises for compliance with fire prevention laws and ordinances.Provides public education regarding fire and safety.

Education & Experience

All applicants must hold a minimum of TDSHS Paramedic Certification. Applicants that hold a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Certification and TDSHS Paramedic Certification will have preference. Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Class C Operator’s License or able to get required license before Hire Date.

Compensation & Benefits

This positon pays between $19.85 and $25.33/hour DOE

The City of Hutchins offers a robust benefits package ot full-time employees including:

  • Medical coverage paid up to 100% for employee, and up to 95% for family coverage.
  • Provision of $15,000 in life insurance coverage at no cost to the employee.
  • Participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Full-time employees are automatically enrolled as a member of TMRS upon hire. Employee contribution rate is 7%. The city matches member contributions on a 2:1 basis.
